Aluminum Towers and Steel Tripods
We offer a variety of instrumentation tripods and aluminum towers that are used in many types of environmental monitoring applications. These tripods and towers are used worldwide to create weather monitoring stations and other climate monitoring systems.
Steel Tripods
These tripods are used for a variety of monitoring applications or simply to hold antennas for radio or repeater stations. We recommend these steel tripods for use with our Campbell Scientific weather stations. These tripods can be used to mount a variety of climate and environmental monitoring sensors. We offer a variety of crossarms and mounts that allow these tripods to hold just about any type of sensor needed.
CM106B Galvanized Steel-Tubing Tripod
This tripod is constructed with individually adjustable legs that allow installation over uneven terrain. Height of the mast can be 7ft, or 10 ft with the mast extended.
The CM106B includes lightning and grounding rods, grounding cables, UV resistant cable ties, and stakes for securing the tripod feet to the ground. An optional guy kit is recommended for sites that may experience high winds up to 159 mph (see allowable wind speeds in the brochure for details). Instrument enclosures can be purchased with mounting brackets that attach to either the mast or leg base.
The CM106B can be used for a variety of applications. For meteorological stations, sensors are mounted to the tripod using mounting brackets appropriate for the model of sensor. For non meteorological applications, the tripod can be used to mount instrument enclosures, solar panels, junction boxes, or antennas.

- Maximum slope: not adjustable for sloping surfaces
Aluminum Towers
Instrumentation towers are constructed of rust-free aluminum with a steel base. They consist of 10-ft sections that ease shipping and on-site installation.
The towers allow higher measurement heights (to 30 ft) than the tripods, and the unguyed 10-ft model has a smaller footprint than comparable tripods.
UT10 – 10 Foot Aluminum Tower
The UT10 tower consists of 2.5 cm (1 in.) OD corrosion-resistant aluminum tubing. In cross-section, it is 25.7 cm (10.1 in.) on a side (center of tubing to center of tubing). It includes an adjustable mast, a hinged base, anchor bolts, lightning rod, grounding rod, and cable tie kit.
- 110 mph maximum wind load
- 24 x 24 x 24 inch concrete pad needed
- 38 lbs
UT20 – 20 Foot Aluminum Tower
The UT20 tower consists of two 3 m (10 ft) sections, one extendable mast, and two cable-tie kits. The extendable mast has a 1.5 m (5 ft) length and a 3.175 cm (1.25 in) outer diameter [swagged to 2.5 cm 1 in) OD]. The 3 m sections are constructed from 2.5 cm (1 in) OD aluminum tubing.
Top 3 m Section
This section’s width is 25.7 cm (10.1 in) on a side (center of tubing to center of tubing).
Bottom 3 m Section
This section’s width is 33.3 cm(13.1 in) on a side (center of cubing to center of tubing).
Mounting Base, Grounding Kit, and Guying Kit
The UT20 and UT30 towers require a mounting base (B18 or RFM18 and grounding kit (UTGND). Campbell also recommends guying the UT30 with the UTGUY Guy Kit. See Brochure for more information.
- Guyed area required: 11.5 ft radius
- Concrete pad required: 36 x 36 x 48 inch
- 110 mph maximum wind load recommendation
